The Settings panel — the cog icon in the navbar — controls how imagery renders across the platform. Set it once and every layer you visualize follows it, so you don’t have to re-tune each Visual.
The rendering controls #
- Resample — how pixels are interpolated when displayed: Native, Bilinear or Bicubic. Native is truest to the data; the others smooth it.
- Stretching — the default contrast stretch: Absolute, 1σ / 2σ / 3σ, or 90% / 98% / 100%. (You can still override this per layer in the analytical tools.)
- Color Palette — the default palette applied to insights.
- Pixel Size — the output resolution in meters. It can’t go below an instrument’s native resolution — the panel enforces the minimum.
- Masks and Masking mode — switch masks on and choose how masked pixels render (Transparent / Solid / Dimmed / Overlay). These are covered in Applying Masks & Masking Modes. Mask selection is remembered per instrument.
- Zones — when the current Area has Zones, a selector to mask them out appears here too (see Zones, Geochemical & Geophysical Data). This is stored per Area.
- PCA Matrix Report (early access) — when enabled, PCA visualizations include a component matrix report.

How it applies and persists #
Most settings are global — they affect every layer you render. Mask selection is scoped per instrument (each instrument remembers its own), and Zone selection is per Area. Your settings are saved automatically when you close the panel, and travel with your account.
Not here: display preferences #
A few preferences you might expect in Settings actually live in My Account → display settings, because they’re about how the interface shows things rather than how imagery renders:
- Measurement unit (km² / ha / mi²)
- Coordinate format (decimal degrees or DMS — also togglable from the map’s right-click menu)
- Decimal separator
- Legend display
