Once you’ve defined a custom instrument, you can bring your own georeferenced imagery into the platform and analyze it exactly like satellite data. Uploaded imagery is attached to one of your custom instruments and one of your Areas.
Getting there #
From the Instruments rail panel, open a custom instrument’s actions menu and choose Upload image — the upload window opens with that instrument preselected.
What you can upload #
Imagery must be a Cloud-Optimized GeoTIFF (COG), .tif or .tiff. Two rules keep your data consistent with the instrument you defined:
- The file’s band count must match the instrument’s bands — the uploader checks this and tells you if it doesn’t line up.
- Each image must supply the metadata keys from the instrument’s schema, including a date (used to place the image in time).
The uploader also verifies the file really is a COG and shows a COG File / Not a COG File badge plus the detected bands before you commit.
Providing the metadata #
You supply the required metadata one of two ways:
- Metadata file — upload a
.jsonor.xmlsidecar and the platform parses the keys for you. - Manual entry — fill a short form built from the instrument’s schema (acquisition date, cloud cover, and any other keys you defined).
Supplying the sun azimuth and zenith at capture is worth it: it’s what lets the platform mask terrain shadows on your imagery later (see Zones, Geochemical & Geophysical Data).
Uploading #
Choose the Area, confirm the instrument, add the file and metadata, then Start Uploading Image. The file uploads directly to your company’s secure storage with a progress bar, and you’ll get “Image uploaded and confirmed successfully.” Uploads count toward your storage quota, so an over-quota upload is refused with a Storage quota reached message — see Storage Limits & Export Caps.
After uploading #
Your imagery appears under the Area for that custom instrument — pick the instrument in the workflow and it’s there to build Visuals on, run insights, export and analyze, just like any satellite scene. It also shows in the Uploads tab of the Cloud, where you can see how much space it uses and remove it.
